As we near the end of the year and countless 'Best of 2012' lists begin to materialise online, it's no surprise at all to see Modern Baseball featuring highly on a lot of those lists. Earlier in 2012, Modern Baseball released an excellent split with Marietta, bringing together two of the most exciting new bands in emo. Musically, these guys play twinkly indie jams with a folk influence, but it's lyrically that Modern Baseball really stand out and prove themselves as ones to watch. Songs like 'Tears Over Beers' and 'The Weekend' are filled with funny, heartfelt lyrics that stand out more with each listen - when they sing "you got a smile that lights this town and we might need it, cause it gets dark around here, real dark around here" on 'The Weekend' I can't help but smile, and I imagine it's an amazing sing-along moment at their live shows. This album is only $5 over on their bandcamp page, a small price to pay for one of the best records of 2012.
