Veils - Clarity

01. Standing Alone (Isolation)
02. Caves (Anxiety)
03. Stallions (Adrenaline)
04. Stronghold (Destruction)
05. Surrender (Clarity)

When I first heard Veil’s album Clarity, I was (and still am) awestruck at this band’s ability to pack in fierce, anguished vocals with guitar melodies engineered to make one’s heart leap from one’s chest; all of this happening within 5 songs. Far from being repetitive or clichéd, as often happens with bands within the hardcore genre, each track deftly deals with universal themes such as loneliness, isolation, and anxiety yet remains strikingly unique. The album will be sure to kill you then resurrect you, only to kill you once again after all is said and done. It is flawless, despite its brevity, and it has swiftly become the most listened to album on my iTunes. This female-fronted UK group is sure to garner a lot of attention in the coming months, especially if or when they decide to tour in the US. Their brand of emotional hardcore will strike a chord with crowds everywhere. I can only imagine that their live shows will be just as intense, if not more so, than this album. It’s definitely worth a listen, and probably a few more after that (my play count is well over 25 times through now).
